Clive Support
Questions, bug reports, and help with your purchase.
Email us about anything — setup problems, bugs, feature requests, or billing. We aim to reply within two business days.
You can also report a bug without leaving the app: open Settings and, under Feedback, tap Report a Bug… or Request a Feature…. The form shows you exactly what diagnostic information it includes before anything is sent.
Getting started
How do I connect to a server?
Tap + in the host list, then enter the address, port, and username for your server. Authenticate with a password or select an SSH key you generated in Clive. Save the host and tap it to open a session.
Clive can't connect to my server
Check these in order:
- The address and port are correct, and the server is reachable from your current network — mobile networks often block outbound SSH on non-standard ports.
- Your username and password or key are right. For key auth, the matching public key must be in
~/.ssh/authorized_keyson the server. - For Mosh, the server needs
mosh-serverinstalled and its UDP port range (60000–61000 by default) open in the firewall.
If it still fails, email us the error message Clive shows and we'll help you narrow it down.
How do I add my public key to a server?
Open the key manager, tap your key, and copy or share the public key. Paste it onto its own line in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the server. Private keys are generated on your device and never leave it.
Why did my session survive being disconnected?
Mosh sessions resume rather than reconnect, so they carry on after a lock, a network change, or hours in the background. For plain SSH, enable Run inside tmux on the host and Clive reattaches to the same session automatically.
Clive Pro
What's free and what's paid?
The SSH and Mosh terminal, host management, SSH keys, and iCloud sync are free forever. Clive Pro unlocks the SFTP file browser, the file viewer and editor, and terminal themes and custom fonts.
Is it a subscription?
No. Clive Pro is a single one-time purchase that stays unlocked on your Apple Account. Every install starts with a 7-day trial with all Pro features unlocked; nothing is charged unless you choose to buy.
I paid but the features are locked
Open Settings and tap Restore Purchase in the Clive Pro section at the top. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with. If it still doesn't unlock, email us and include the date of purchase.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through them: visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple Account. If something in Clive is broken, email us first — we'd rather fix it.
Reporting a bug
The more of this you can include, the faster we can fix it:
- What you did, what happened, and what you expected instead.
- Whether the host uses SSH or Mosh, and whether tmux mode is on.
- Your device and iOS version, and the Clive version from Settings.
- The server's operating system, if you know it.
Never send us a private key or a password. We will never ask for either.
Requirements
Clive runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17.0 or later.
Privacy
Clive has no accounts, ads, analytics, or tracking. Your hosts and settings stay on your device, keys and passwords stay in the Keychain, and session traffic goes directly to the servers you configure. Full details are in the privacy policy.
